Lumps & Bumps
I spend a lot of time surveying landscapes using a drone to capture vertical aerial images of possible archaeological sites.
I've been so busy concentrating on the archaeological details that I hadn't realised just how beautiful some of the images are in their own right. The patterns are often mesmerising and it takes me a while to work out exactly what I'm looking at.
In order to emphasise the features, many of the images are deliberately captured in low winter sunlight, in the late afternoon, just as the sun is almost setting. Any minor lumps and bumps show up as strange patterns and can be identified as possible features to explore further. These features often are hidden to the eye at ground level and are usually completely covered by bracken and other vegetation from May until December.
